How to replace the 3 most-repaired parts on a dishwasher

The 3 most-repaired parts on a dishwasherSome dishwasher parts are replaced more than others due to wear and tear from everyday use. All dishwasher brands, whether it is Whirlpool, Maytag, GE, Kitchen Aid or a Kenmore dishwasher, share similar parts which function in much the same way. Here then are the top three most-repaired parts on a dishwasher according to sales from our website.

Rack Rollers – These rollers or wheels help move the dishwasher racks in and out of your dishwasher when you load and unload dishes. They are located on both sides of the bottom dishwasher rack. Dishwasher roller racks which are cracked, missing or broken can easily be replaced and this repair does not take much time or know-how. Usually, dishwasher roller rack wheels pop on and off the rack itself. Check the other roller rack wheels to see how they attach to your rack.

Hoses – Your dishwasher has several hoses connected to it which help fill your dishwasher with water and drain water from your dishwasher. These are internal hoses, drain hoses and fill hoses. If any of these hoses develop a leak or kink, it could damage your home and prevent your dishwasher from working properly. If your dishwasher is leaking, check both the internal hose connections on your dishwasher as well as the drain hose. You might need to remove a kick plate in order to check underneath the appliance. Replace any broken or leaking hoses with new dishwasher hoses.

If your dishwasher is not draining, check the drain hose for any restrictions or clogs. If the hose is kinked, replace it with a new dishwasher drain hose.

Spray ArmsYour dishwasher’s spray arms spray water and detergent on dirty dishes in order to clean them. If your dishwasher is not cleaning well, check the spray arm holes for any blockages, like small food particles. You can try using a toothpick to clear the hole and allow water to flow through again.

Your spray arms can become warped over time, causing it to spray water towards the bottom of the dishwasher door causing leaks. The spray arms can also become cracked or break at the seams and will need to be replaced.

Level of Repair Difficulty

One – Easy repair: can be done in less than 10 minutes and requires minimal skills and appliance disassembly.

Two – Average Repair: might take between 10 – 15 minutes and require some disassembly, or moving of the appliance to reach the part. Repair might require the use of tools like a screw driver or pliers.

Three – Moderate Repair: might take 20 minutes or more to complete and involve the moving of an appliance or disassembly of multiple parts. Repair might involve disconnecting and reconnecting electronic lead and components.

Four – Complex Repair: requires 30 minutes or more to complete and involves a great deal of appliance disassembly—including electronic parts, leads and wires — and the use of tools, possibly specialized tools.

  1. It’s interesting to learn that hoses are one of the most replaced parts of a dishwasher. I’m glad that you mentioned that any leaks or kink from the hose could potentially damage the home and the dishwasher itself. I’d be sure to check these parts out and see if any of them are busted. I’ll try looking for places where I can get myself some replacement parts at the ready. I would love to prevent further problems popping before we move out to our new place.
